Preamble: Some of this blog post was written by an AI application. The fact is that many businesses are leaning more and more on automation. I wrote this post to highlight how AI can help make things more efficient.
My prompts to write this blog post using AI were:
- Write me a blog post with best practices when writing a blog post to promote a service
- Include advice to double check facts;
- Include advice to check that the output is actually relevant to the product or service and the location where the business is located; and,
- Include advice to redact private information in any prompts or input you give the AI to use.
My opinion is that it generated a fairly decent article to include my prompts. It saved me a little time. However, my initial prompts on my first attempt for the AI to write this a first draft of this article did not include the words “include advice to”. The initial draft was not very good. I added “include advice to” and noticed that this addition to my prompt generated a much better draft. I still had to go add commentary that is more meaningful, and I made some stylistic changes. Even though it did not give me a polished product, it did save me time.
Ultimately, any blog post, contract, LLC operating agreement, buy-sell agreement, LOI, letter to family, or any other writing that you want to be effective and have meaning is only as good as the writer and the information used by the writer. Use AI to be more efficient, but keep in mind that if you do not feed the AI good information or good prompts the output will probably not be very good. Here is my AI aided article, enjoy!
Article: AI-powered writing tools have revolutionized the way content is created, making it easier and faster to draft blog posts. However, while AI can be a powerful assistant, it’s essential to use it strategically to maintain credibility, accuracy, and relevance. Whether you’re using AI to brainstorm ideas, generate drafts, or refine existing content, following best practices will help you create high-quality blog posts that serve your audience effectively.
1. Double-Check Citations and Facts
AI models can generate well-structured and engaging content, but they are not infallible when it comes to accuracy. Some AI-generated facts and citations may be outdated, incorrect, or even fabricated. To ensure reliability:
• Always verify AI-generated statistics, quotes, or references with trusted sources.
• If the AI provides citations, check whether they link to legitimate, up-to-date sources.
• Cross-check factual claims with industry experts or credible publications before publishing.
Failing to validate information can damage your credibility and mislead your readers, which can be particularly problematic if your blog post is intended for business, medical, legal, or technical purposes.
2. Align the Message with Your Product or Service
AI-generated content can be general or even off-topic if not guided properly. If you are using AI to draft a blog post for marketing purposes, make sure the content aligns with your brand’s message and value proposition.
• Refine AI prompts to focus on key aspects of your service or product.
• Customize the draft by adding specific examples, case studies, or success stories related to your business.
• Ensure the content supports your overall marketing strategy rather than being just a generic informational piece.
By keeping the message relevant, you ensure that your blog post not only educates but also drives conversions and engagement.
3. Redact Sensitive Information Before Inputting It into AI
When using AI to generate blog posts, be mindful of data privacy concerns. A good memorandum written for a client or superior may form a strong basis for a blog post. Make sure to redact or modify any details in any material that you may upload to an AI system. Many AI platforms store or use input data to improve their models, which could pose a risk if sensitive or proprietary information is shared.
• Avoid including confidential business data, customer details, or personal identifiers in AI-generated prompts.
• If you are repurposing internal reports or client documents into a blog post, remove any sensitive details before feeding them into the AI.
• Consider using AI models that prioritize user privacy, such as self-hosted or offline AI solutions, when working with sensitive content.
Protecting privacy not only ensures compliance with regulations but also safeguards your company’s reputation and integrity.
4. Ensure Content is Jurisdictionally Relevant
Laws, regulations, and industry norms vary by country and region, so it’s important to ensure that AI-generated content aligns with your local jurisdiction.
- If discussing legal, financial, or healthcare topics, tailor information to reflect the relevant laws in your country.
- Avoid generic AI-generated compliance recommendations that may not apply to your specific location.
- If necessary, consult with local experts to verify jurisdictional accuracy before publishing.
This step is particularly crucial for businesses that want to market in a particular area. For example, our firm is serves as outside general counsel for small businesses. Therefore, a blog post highlighting California specific law read by a person with no connections to California is likely irrelevant, and more significantly, potentially misleading.
Conclusion
AI can be a game-changer for content creation, but it’s essential to approach it with caution and strategy. By double-checking facts, ensuring relevance to your business, protecting privacy, and maintaining jurisdictional accuracy, you can use AI as a valuable tool for crafting high-quality, trustworthy blog posts. Implementing these best practices will help you get the most out of AI while maintaining the credibility and effectiveness of your content.
